The decisions elected board members make affect the community at large. Public schools are often the largest employers in their counties, and the decisions that board members make in regard to millage rates, programs, and curriculum affect the lives of employees, parents, and students alike. It is imperative that board members, new and old, make decisions with good governance practices in mind and are aware of the long-term implications of their decisions.
